Community Care & Crisis Phone Line

587-969-6978

Created after the murder of Latjor Tuel by the Calgary Police, the Community Care & Crisis (CCC) Phone Line is a way to help lessen interactions and impacts local police have on vulnerable populations, and addressing matters with a care-first response free of criminalization.

WHEN IS THE CCC PHONE LINE ON?

Wednesday to Friday, 6PM to midnight.

WHAT TO CALL THE CCC PHONE LINE FOR?

Physical and verbal altercations, welfare checks, domestic violence, resource connections and peer support.

WHAT NOT TO CALL THE CCC PHONE LINE FOR?

Medical crises (call 911 for EMS and ask for no police presence), in-progress burglary or theft.

HOW DOES THE CCC PHONE LINE WORK?

Our Phone Operators Team (POT) currently consists of 5 people and our Response Team (RT) consists of 10 people. We also have 4 people dedicated to over-the-phone Peer Support. Based on the availability of these 19 people, we have created a schedule that is able to cover Wednesday to Friday, 6PM to midnight. Each shift consists of 1 Phone Operator, 2 in-person Responders and 1 Peer Support person. Each team will have a driver, someone trained with First Aid, and people with experience/knowledge in drug poisonings, mental health crises and de-escalation.

WHO DO WE LEARN FROM?

Relationships Evolving Possibilities (REP), Project LETS and Interrupting Criminalization.

WHO INSPIRES OUR WORK?

The people.
